Adrenal Dysfunction

Adrenal Dysfunction is a very common, but often undiagnosed syndrome. As a result, many individuals are suffering from a problem that interferes with their ability to perform everyday activities and enjoy life.

Some characteristic symptoms of Adrenal Dysfunction include:

  • difficulty waking up in the mornings
  • feeling exhausted even after adequate sleep
  • difficulty doing everyday tasks
  • lack of energy to participate in activities that were once enjoyable
  • increased need for caffeine or other stimulants
  • inability to handle stress
  • difficulty concentrating
  • recurring respiratory infections
  • taking longer than normal to recover when sick
  • decreased sex drive
  • low blood sugar -low blood pressure

The function of the adrenal glands is to control how the body reacts to stress by regulating the hormones that are secreted during times of stress. These hormones are cortisol and DHEA. If stress becomes recurrent, the adrenal glands become overwhelmed and are unable to adequately regulate the amount of cortisol and DHEA that is released. As a result, the body’s response to stress becomes inadequate, which often results in adrenal dysfunction. A simple saliva test (link to the saliva test page) can help determine if the symptoms that you are experiencing are the result of adrenal dysfunction. Lifestyles changes along with natural hormone replacement, if necessary, can provide relief from adrenal dysfunction.
